Prof. Oladele Ajose (1962-1966)
Professor Oladele Ajose, who was the foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), started the journey of a new University, on June 8, 1961. He was a man of great vision, selfless achiever, honest and disciplined. Professor Ajose’s humane disposition and natural warmth are legendary and devoid of discrimination.
Prof. Hezekiah Oluwasanmi (1966-1975)
Professor H.A. Oluwasanmi, the 2nd Vice-Chancellor, actually saw to the movement of the University to its permanent sita at Ile-Ife on 29th January, 1967. Professor Oluwasanmi’s remarkable success as an administrator, brilliant performances, his sacred principles of dedication, honesty and commitment, led to the naming of the University Library after him.
Prof. Ojetunji Aboyade (1975-1978)
Professor Ojetunji Aboyade, an economist of high repute succeeded Professor H.A. Oluwasanmi as the Vice-Chancellor of this great citadel of learning. During his tenure, the University witnessed a lot of development. A man of many attributes, Professor Aboyade held many positions covering a wide spectrum of activities
Prof. Cyril Onwumechili (1979-1982)
Professor Cyril Agodi Onwumechili became the Vice-Chancellor of this great University after the renowned economist, Professor Ojetunji Aboyade. He contributed immensely to the development of the University. Professor Onwumechili envinced an uncanny ability to reach the heart of a problem, however complex and unravel the issue at stake.
Prof. Wande Abimbola (1982-1989)
Professor Wande Abimbola who came after Professor C.A. Onwumechili also contributed to the growth of the University. During his tenure. A man of letters with deep interest in the propagation of Yoruba Language, his various works not only encapsulate the wisdom of the elders and their way of life but also their way of communication.
Prof. Caleb Osunniyi Osuntogun (1990-1991)
Professor Caleb Osuntogun is the founder/Chairman, Resource Integrated Development Foundation (RIDF). He holds a Doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the university of Leeds, United Kingdom. rofessor Osuntogun is an Honourary LEAD fellow. Hw is also an Honourary Member of the Institute of Environmental Engineering of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Prof. Wale Omole (1991-1999)
Professor Wale Omole who succeeded Professor Osuntogun was a workaholic. He supervised most of the new projects during his tenure. Professor Omole’s tenure witnessed the development of ICT and the establishment of INTECU. It is well known that Professor Omole impacted positively on the image of the University. He attracted philanthropists to the university.
Prof. Roger Makanjuola (1999-2006)
Professor Roger O.A Makanjuola became the Vice Chancellor after Professor Wale Omole (at a period of crisis in the University). A man of high integrity. Professor Makanjuola;s resounding success, his sacred principles of dedication, honesty, commitment and his great value for justice and fairness led to his name being written in gold in the history of the Obafemi Awolowo University.
Prof. Michael Faborode (2006-2011)
Michael Oladimeji Faborode, a Professor of Agricultural Engineering, Registered Professional Engineer, and Past Vice President, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is the outgoing Vice-Chancellor Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife.
